Fast. While we might sometimes use the term ‘switcher’ regarding CueSnap, the app is not a live switcher — rather, using CueSnap is performing a LIVE EDIT. This term means exactly what it sounds like. So at the conclusion of your event, your program material is essentially already edited… meaning every camera/source decision for your program has already been made. So, in the quickest possible scenario, after shooting — simply copy your camera footage/data into your NLE machine, import your CueSnap data file, and render/output/upload. It’s that fast.

CueSnap is not designed for live streaming. However, at CueSnap we’ve discovered a long line of video professionals who handle a significant number of streaming events… Events that almost always require a post produced version for on-demand viewing. Interestingly, these on-demand videos can typically receive x20 – x100 the number of initial, streaming viewers. So while these professionals may choose to live switch, many still have the need for an error free, finished version of their program or event for broad dissemination. Because of CueSnap’s lightning fast capability, we believe CueSnap actually has the potential to change these delivery norms for the better as the app becomes widely used.

Now you’ve found a huge advantage of CueSnap! From load in to ‘action’ takes a fraction of the time you need for live streaming. And downstream, CueSnap cuts your post production time in half, if not more. Place your cameras at the venue wherever you want them. Ensure all devices are set to your choice of FPS. Sync the cameras with CueSnap’s tone or flash, and you’re ready to go!

Great question. CueSnap works with any camera capable of recording continuously for the length of your presentation or event. Some older DSLRs will only record approx 8 min at a time, then need to be reset. So if you’re shooting a 30 min event, this won’t work so well. All cameras also need to be able to record at the same Frames Per Second (FPS) and you’ll need to ensure that the FPS settings match on each camera. Then just enter the FPS rate you’ve decided on into the CueSnap app and you’re set!

Absolutely the best. Because you get the highest quality video achievable by the cameras you’re using. No video signal over wires, through converters, or in and out of switchers. You take the footage directly from the cameras and into your NLE system.

CueSnap supports multiple frame rates—

FPS: 24, 25, 30, 50, and 60

Please don’t confuse your frame rate (FPS) with timecode (TC). Most cameras shoot 30 full frames per second but the timecode used is actually 29.97. Still confused? You’re not alone! See our training video, ‘Timecode with CueSnap’.

Yes! You may shoot in any resolution you choose because CueSnap is resolution independent. CueSnap does allow you to designate your frame size/resolution for each multicam setup. But no worries, once all event data has been sent to your NLE, you can modify or scale your pixel parameters in whatever way you need.
